Visiting Professor Guide
Goal
Each year NORSLIS will engage a visiting professor (VP) for a period
of 3-4 weeks at 1-2 relevant locations. The VP should be a leading international
scholar that can promote research frameworks and encourage local research
groups. A VP is not expected to organize doctoral courses, although he
or she may participate in them. There should be a possiblity for both
senior researchers and students to be able to discuss with the VP. This
can be done both in the form of seminars and as individual discussions/consultations.
All these things should be arranged in a quite informal and flexible way.
Budget for travel and accomodation
Travel and accommodation costs should not exceed 22.000NOK. The main responsible
person for the VP should try to find the cheapest possible and practical
alternatives. Travel costs will be reimbursed
according to the NORSLIS instructions.
Budget
for honoraries
The VP will be paid a honorary corresponding to about 4 week full
time work not exceeding 40.000NOK including daily allowances. When social
costs etc. are included, the actual cost for NORSLIS is 60.000NOK. The
honorary will be paid using forms (one for honorary and one for tax reduction)
that the research school leader will send to the VP to fill in and return.
If a NORSLIS visiting professor teaches, honoraries as well as costs for
travel and accommodation will not be paid using the budget for the course/workshop,
but from the visiting professor budget.
Questions
regarding budget issues and other practical considerations should be addressed
to the research school leader. Organizers are also recommended to make
use of earlier experiences by asking other organizers in the NORSLIS network
and to study their previous activities.
Layout
There must be one main responsible person for the VP. At each stop
there must be one local organizer, who takes care of the practical details:
announcing the VP, making hotel reservations, providing space for the
seminars and consultations. When preparing the announcement of the VP
have a look at the announcement for 2004-Visiting
professor.
Students,
and others, who wish to meet with the VP are kindly asked to contact the
local organizer. Ph.D. students under the NORSLIS programme may apply
for travel support to meet with the VP from the NORSLIS Board.
Activity
report
The main responsible person must send an activity report of the VP to
the research school leader. The details of what should go into the report
is specified in a VP activity reporting
form to be filled in and submitted to the research school leader.
