Road Show Seminar Guide
Goal
The novel concept of a 'road show seminar' means that a team of 2-3
senior researchers of high international status will visit 2-3 Nordic-Baltic
sites, each covering an adequate region, with a tailored set of lectures
and tutorials on a pre-selected research area, as well as supplying improved
supervision and consultation. The idea is in a cost-effective manner to
provide research knowledge and experience out to the local research groups
and doctoral students within Nordic-Baltic regions. Travel and accommodation
costs are thus minimized.
Budget for travel and accomodation
Travel and accommodation costs should not exceed 45.000NOK. The main responsible
person for the road show should try to find the cheapest possible and
practical alternatives. Travel costs will be reimbursed
according to the NORSLIS instructions.
Budget
for honoraries
Honoraries only applies to visiting lectures, that is persons not
employed by the NORSLIS departments. The cost for one hour of teaching
is 1200NOK(inkluding social costs) and the lecturer will be paid 800NOK.
Road show honoraries could not exceed 21.000NOK which corresponds to 18
hours of teaching (lectures, seminars, supervision/consultation). Honoraries
will be paid using forms (one for honorary and one for tax reduction)
that the research school leader will send to the lecturers for them to
fill in and return.
Honoraries should not be tranferred to cover travel and accommodation,
since the aim is to engage lecturers from outside the NORSLIS network.
If a NORSLIS visiting professor teaches, honoraries as well as costs for
travel and accommodation will not be paid using the budget for the course/workshop,
but from the visiting professor budget.
Questions
regarding budget issues and other practical considerations should be addressed
to the research school leader. Organizers are also recommended to make
use of earlier experiences by asking other organizers in the NORSLIS network
and to study their previous activities.
Layout
There must be one main responsible person for the road show seminars.
At each stop there must be one local organizer, who takes care of the
practical details: announcing the program, making hotel reservations,
providing space for the seminars and consultations. The announcement
of the events should follow the NORSLIS guide.
Please have
a look at 2004 Road show
seminar to get an idea on how to announce and plan the road show.
Typically, each stop starts with a one day seminar followed by supervision/consultation
the next day.
Students,
and others, who wish to participate are kindly asked to inform the local
contact person in advance of the seminar. Students should indicate if
they wish to have a separate talk to the lecturers during their visit,
and also send them an abstract describing their research idea. Ph.D. students
under the NORSLIS programme may apply
for travel support to the NORSLIS Board.
Activity
report
The main responsible person must send an activity report of the road show
to the research school leader. The details of what should go into the
report is specified in a activity reporting
form to be filled in and submitted to the research school leader.
