Terttu Kortelainen, Ph.D., lecturer (1.1.-31.12.2004 acting professor and head of the department) at the Department of Information Studies, University of Oulu. Her research interests are in informetric research, currently in the webometric study of digital libraries, as well as in the evaluation of public libraries. She has supervised research projects focusing on usability questions of Cuber, a European virtual university, the net service of the Finnish Open University, a study pilot web service provided by the Finnish Ministry of Education (Opintoluotsi), an evaluation research project of Northern Finnish public libraries, and on database indexing and content-based retrieval of audio and video recordings.

Her publications consist of two study books, a doctoral thesis and articles on bibliometrics, as well as articles on the study projects of the department. She is the chairperson of the Finnish Society for Information Studies, and member of the executive team of the Opintoluotsi (study pilot) project of the Ministry of Education, the Advisory Committee of the Finnish Social Science Data Archive, the board of the Finnish University Network of Communicational Sciences and the publication board of the Finnish Information Studies publication series.
