Ingeborg Torvik Sølvberg is Professor in Informatics/Information Management at the Department of Computer and Information Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, She is heading the Information Management Group, which gives courses and conduct research in digital libraries, information retrieval, information - and knowledge management.

Previously she was with SINTEF (The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology) since 1969, and held several positions as researcher, Programme Manager, Section Leader etc. She started her research and development work, in the area of information technology combined with libraries, in 1970. She was the Project Leader of BIBSYS (the Norwegian Library Network) from the beginning in 1972 until 1985. She has participated, and been project leader, in several national and international research projects, funded by NFR (Norwegian Research Council), ESA and EU, in areas such as information retrieval, information logistics, knowledge technology (AI). She has been a member of EU-funded DELOS NoE.

Professor Sølvberg was PC co-chair of ECDL2001, and is General Chair of ECDL2003. She is or has been a member of several national committees and boards; ELAG (the European Library Automation Group), Norwegian delegate to the Technical Information Panel (TIP) of AGARD, Appointed member of the Council of National Office of Research and Special Libraries (Riksbibliotektjenesten), ICT in Medicine and Health Service (Norwegian Research Council), Evaluation Committee of the Swedish Higher Education and Research in Informatics; and programme committees like ECDL, JCDL, ICADL, CRIS and others. Professor Ingeborg T. Sølvberg has been a visiting scientist with Stanford University, with the University of Florida, with the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, and with University of California at Santa Barbara.
